House passes Small Business Advocacy Improvements Act

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill this week that expands the primary functions and proposes additional duties for the Office of Advocacy of the Small Business Administration.

Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer

Specifically, the Small Business Advocacy Improvements Act of 2022, H.R. 6454, would expand the officeʻs duties to examine the role of small businesses in the international economy. Further, the office would be required to represent the views and interests of small businesses before foreign governments and international entities to contribute to regulatory and trade initiatives that may affect small businesses.

“The nation’s regulatory environment directly impacts small businesses and America’s entrepreneurs. With limited resources and staff, small business owners are often wearing many hats throughout the entire workday, including ensuring compliance with all federal regulations,” U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO), the billʻs sponsor, said.

Luetkemeyer is the ranking member of the U.S. House Small Business Committee.

“Now more than ever, small businesses, entrepreneurs, and startups need a strong advocate in Washington supporting them when it comes to regulations. My bill, which was favorably reported out of Committee by voice vote will improve and enhance the Office of Advocacy,” Luetkemeyer added.

The bill now moves to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
