FSR names former Federal Housing Finance Agency chief as president of Housing Policy Council

The Financial Services Roundtable (FSR) appointed former Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Acting Director Ed DeMarco as president of FSR’s Housing Policy Council (HPC), effective June 1.

From 2006 to 2009, DeMarco was chief operating officer and senior deputy director of the FHFA and its predecessor agency. DeMarco then served as acting director of the FHFA from 2009 to 2014, an organization that regulates Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Home Loan Banks.

Most recently DeMarco worked at the Milken Institute’s Center for Financial Markets, where he has been a senior fellow in Residence since 2014.

DeMarco’s federal service also included roles within the Social Security Administration (2003 to 2006), where he was assistant deputy commissioner for policy; the Treasury Department (1994 to 2003), where he was director of the Office of Financial Institutions Policy; and the General Accounting Office (1986 to 1994).

He received a B.A. in economics from the University of Notre Dame and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Maryland.
