ACLI elects new chairman, officers, board of directors at annual conference

The American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) recently elected its new chairman, officers and board of directors at their 2016 annual conference.

Peter Schaefer, president and CEO of Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America, was elected as ACLI’s chairman. He succeeds Deanna Mulligan, who will now serve as the organization’s immediate past chair. Schaefer is the first ACLI chairman who has also chaired the ACLI Forum 500, a representative group for small-to-medium sized life insurance companies.

“Pete is a respected life insurance industry leader and will be an outstanding chairman,” Dirk Kempthorne, president and CEO of ACLI, said. “As the first reinsurance CEO to lead ACLI, his insights will be invaluable to our board of directors as we work in service of the industry and the 75 million American families who rely on our products for financial and retirement security.”

Mark Mullin, president and CEO of Transamerica Corporation, was elected to ACLI’s chairman-elect position.

ACLI’s board of directors through 2019 include J. Scott Davison, president and CEO of OneAmerica Financial Partners, Inc.; Daniel Houston, president and CEO of Principal Financial Group; John Johns, chairman of the board and CEO of Protective Life Corporation; DenniS Johnson, president a CEO of United Heritage Life Insurance Company; Rod Martin, chairman and CEO of Voya Financial; Richard P. McKenney, president and CEO of Unum Group, Ron Pressman, CEO of institutional financial services for TIAA; Barry Stowe, chairman and CEO of Jackson National Life Insurance Company; and Cynthia TIdwell, president and CEO of Royal Neighbors of America.
