Officials said “Transitioning Careers – Basic Bank Training for Veterans” is a free, online training initiative specifically designed to teach veterans, transitioning active-duty military members, and military spouses basic banking skills.

“America’s banks have a long and proud history of support for our military and veteran communities, and thousands of bankers have made the transition from military service to banking, inspired by a similar mission of helping others,” Jim Edrington, ABA’s chief member engagement officer, said. “This free training will make it even easier for banks to recruit and onboard veterans as well as active-duty military spouses. Banks will benefit from the leadership, problem-solving and teamwork skills that every veteran learns from their service to the nation.”

ABA officials said the suite of eight self-paced online courses serves as a comprehensive introduction to the banking industry and covers the basics of customer service, lending, payments, and ethics. The program is also available free of charge to banks as well as to qualified individuals who request access on their own.

The Department of Defense estimates 230,000 to 245,000 military members will be entering civilian life each year. The ABA developed the suite of courses to assist veterans with that transition and help banks tap into a community of job candidates.
