South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem has enacted six medical cannabis and hemp bills, reflecting Noem’s focus on implementing a safe and responsible medical cannabis program.
Noem seeks to have South Dakota’s medical cannabis program serve as the nation’s most patient-focused initiative.
SB 19 permits certain facilities to establish reasonable restrictions related to the medical use of cannabis; SB 21 revises provisions as it relates to the revocation of a medical cannabis registry identification card; SB 24 sets a maximum number of cannabis plants that a medical cannabis cardholder may cultivate; SB 26 revises the definition of practitioner for purposes of the medical cannabis program;
SB 118 establishes provisions in conjunction with medical cannabis testing; and SB 201 revises industrial hemp provisions.
Noem previously signed an additional 18 medical cannabis bills into law during the 2022 legislative session. The governor signed 180 bills into law and vetoed one during the present legislative session.
