The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently selected David Saltiel to serve as acting director of the Division of Trading and Markets.
Saltiel replaces Christian R. Sabella, whose tenure with the SEC concluded on June 2.
“I look forward to continuing to work with David and thank him for lending his knowledge and experience as Acting Director,” SEC Chair Gary Gensler said. “I thank Christian for his dedication and service to the SEC over the last 10 years.”
Saltiel has served as the head of the Office of Analytics and Research in the Division of Trading and Markets since joining the SEC in 2016, officials noted, adding he was previously Chief Economist at the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board.
Saltiel earned an undergraduate degree from Williams College and a master’s degree in economics from St. Antony’s College at the University of Oxford.
This year, Sabella served the SEC’s Division of Trading and Markets as acting director and deputy director. Throughout his SEC tenure, Sabella fulfilled various roles with Trading and Markets, including Office of Derivatives Policy and Trading Practices branch chief; a senior special adviser to several Trading and Markets directors; and Office of Clearance and Settlement associate director.
