Pallone noted the measure represents the most significant expansion of consumer protections since the Affordable Care Act was signed into law over 10 years ago.

“Beginning January 1st, consumers will finally be protected from financially devastating surprise medical bills that occur through no fault of their own,” Pallone said. “The new law takes patients out of the middle of payment disputes between health care providers and insurers and establishes a fair payment resolution process that won’t raise costs.”

In addition to protecting patients from surprise medical bills, the legislation establishes a fair payment resolution process between healthcare providers and health insurance plans.

“I’m grateful to the Biden Administration for their swift implementation of this long-overdue protection,” Pallone concluded. “The No Surprises Act is a huge victory for consumers who will now have the peace of mind knowing they will be protected from surprise medical bills going forward.”

Earlier this year, Pallone joined U.S. Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), Senate HELP chair, in forwarding correspondence supporting the Biden Administration’s implementation of crucial No Surprises Act provisions.
