Narahari Phatak was selected as the new associate director for policy by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Monday.

Phatak will serve in the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis (DERA), managing the development of economic analyses that will underpin policy development activities by SEC.
“Dr. Phatak is a creative and skilled financial economist, a dynamic colleague, and a skilled manager,” Mark J. Flannery, chief economist and director of the division of economic and risk analysis, said. “He will be a strong addition to the senior management team in the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis.”
Phatak will direct four DERA offices which generate economic input on a wide range of financial market issues. His experience includes four years with DERA, during which he served as a financial economist fellow, a supervisory financial economist, and acting assistant director of the office of corporate finance.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead a talented group of economists and foster collaboration across the agency to promote the use of economic analysis in Commission decision-making,” Phatak said.
Phatak is an alumnus of the University of California at Berkeley, which awarded his Ph.D., and the University of Pennsylvania, where he completed his undergraduate education.
