Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak was appointed this week by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners as its representative on the international Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
As part of the OECD, which includes appointees from 35 countries, Doak will represent U.S. insurance regulators. The forum was created to promote policies that improve the economy and foster world trade. Members share ideas and experiences and seek solutions to common problems. Doak will attend meetings, draft insurance-related white papers, and provide commentary on issues.
“I’m honored to have this opportunity to represent the NAIC at the international level,” Doak said. “International dialogue between insurance supervisors is critical as the global insurance market becomes increasingly connected.”
Doak has been the Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner since 2011. He serves on NAIC’s Property and Casualty Insurance Committee and is a member of the Government Relations Leadership Council.
NAIC president and Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Ted Nickel is confident Doak will serve the organization and the industry well.
“Commissioner Doak’s experience and knowledge make him an outstanding candidate to represent state insurance regulators on the OECD,” Nickel said.
This year, the OECD agenda will focus on various insurance regulatory initiatives including OECD global insurance framework, cyber risk, innovation, disaster risk financing and technology.
