The Federal Reserve Bank of New York appointed Cali Brooks and Miguel Soto-Class to its Community Advisory Group.
The Community Advisory Group – made up of leaders of nonprofits, community organizations, foundations, and anchor institutions – is tasked with providing the New York Fed with a view of the economic issues faced by a diverse set of communities and individuals in the district.
Brooks is president and CEO of Adirondack Foundation, an $85 million community foundation that addresses the Adirondack region’s challenges, such as food insecurity, lack of childcare, housing shortages, barriers to college, and limited access to vocational training. Previously, Brooks was a staff member of the HKH Foundation and worked for the New York State Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy.
Soto-Class is the founder and president of the Center for a New Economy, an organization with offices in San Juan, Puerto Rico; Washington, D.C.; and Madrid. The organization is a non-partisan advocate on behalf of Puerto Rico in policy circles, as well as Latino groups in the U.S. mainland. Soto-Class was an editor of “The Economy of Puerto Rico: Restoring Growth,” which was published by the Brookings Institution in 2006, and has been a columnist for El Nuevo Día, Puerto Rico’s largest circulation daily.
