New Jersey officials have finalized a contract with cannabis regulatory track-and-trace systems provider Metrc.
“As New Jersey kicks off its first cannabis track-and-trace system, we’re excited to help lead the charge on implementing this crucial step toward effective regulation,” Metrc CEO Jeff Wells said. “Metrc looks forward to working closely with the state of New Jersey, regulators, and licensed business owners to ensure the security and safety of both the state’s medicinal market and the newly established adult-use market.”
The partnership between Metrc and the state, which has had a legal medicinal cannabis program since 2010 and legalized cannabis for adult use last year, represents the first time the state of New Jersey has deployed a centralized track-and-trace system.
Metrc utilizes a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag model. Each plant and product is traceable, enabling seamless data tracking for each plant while offering optimized inventory control and cultivation management.
The process aids in ensuring regulatory compliance, in addition to providing accurate sales data reporting while addressing the illicit market and supplying consumer and product safety advances.
