Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval signed into law a bill that gives consumers in the state the option to receive their insurance policies, documents and consumer notices electronically.
This law also enables insurers to post standard policy forms and endorsements online in lieu of mailing paper documents.
Assembly Bill 455 was approved by the Nevada State Assembly on April 25 on a 42 to 0 vote. The Nevada State Senate voted 21 to 0 to approve AB 455 on May 18, and Gov. Sandoval signed AB 455 into law on May 26.
“Increasingly consumers want to conduct their personal business online using their smartphone or tablet. They want fast access and user-friendly ways to see their documents,” Mark Sektnan, Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) vice president for state affairs, said. “Assembly Bill 455 gives insurance customers more choice, convenience and flexibility in managing their insurance.”
Nevada is the 23rd state to allow electronic delivery of insurance documents, according to PCI.
“Consumers who choose to conduct their business electronically enjoy faster delivery which also results in reduced administrative costs for insurers,” Sektnan said. “These modernized delivery options reduce energy consumption, paper use and other consumables associated with conventional mail. This is a win-win for everyone.”
