Kathleen L. Mellody has joined the Investment Company Institute (ICI) as senior government affairs officer.

Sackett III, ICI chief government affairs officer, said. “Kathleen is a well-regarded, seasoned Democratic strategist whose comprehensive knowledge of financial services policy issues, and extensive government experience, will be a tremendous asset to our work with ICI’s member firms and the 100 million shareholders they serve.”
Before joining ICI, Mellody served as head of federal affairs at The Hartford, spearheading the legislative and regulatory work for the firm in Washington.
She served in the White House as special assistant to the president and Senate liaison during the Obama administration before working at The Hartford. Her responsibilities included coordinating with the Senate on the administration’s financial services and tax policy priorities.
Mellody was deputy assistant secretary for legislative affairs at the Department of the Treasury in the Obama Administration prior to working at the White House, assigned to issues related to banking, finance, terrorism, and financial intelligence.
Mellody also has prior experience working as a counsel for the House Financial Services Committee, as well as for MetLife, Inc., holding a BBA from Georgetown University and a JD from George Mason University School of Law.
