Mastercard is teaming up with Boingo Wireless to provide certain cardholders with unlimited access to more than one million Boingo wi-fi hotspots around the world.
The free wi-fi service is now available for select HSBC Mastercard cardholders in Argentina, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, United Arab Emirates and the U.K., which will save cardholders money on accessing wi-fi when traveling in these areas.
A recent survey by Resonance Consultancy found that more than half of the wealthiest travelers say that complimentary wi-fi is the top “desirable amenity” when traveling.
“We want to provide consumers with benefits and rewards that matter to them,” Francis Hondal, executive vice president of credit & loyalty at Mastercard, said. “That means making experiences they love, like travel, even better with a benefit that reflects their increasingly mobile lifestyles. This partnership with Boingo will help Mastercard cardholders stay connected whenever they want, wherever they go.”
While it is currently offered to select HSBC Mastercard accounts, the company saod it will be rolled out to other issuers and cardholders in the future.
“Wi-Fi is now an expectation for travelers, making access to Boingo hotspots the perfect membership benefit for Mastercard cardholders,” Dawn Callahan, chief marketing officer at Boingo, said. “With Boingo’s blazing fast Wi-Fi speeds, cardholders can seamlessly connect to mobile activities on the go, such as streaming their favorite TV show, working remotely or Periscoping their vacation travelogue.”
