Lawmakers seek Deutsche Bank records subpoena

A group of lawmakers are petitioning the House Committee on Financial Services to request documents from Deutsche Bank related to the Russian mirror trading scheme.

Officials said the written request to Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling also includes solicitation of internal reviews of the personal accounts of President Trump and his associates.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) joined Reps. Daniel T. Kildee (D-MI), Gwen Moore (D-WI), Al Green (D-TX) and Ed Perlmutter (D-CO) in composing correspondence to Hensarling, calling on him to apply his unilateral subpoena authority to request the documents.

“As Chairman, you have repeatedly deployed your subpoena powers, issuing 21 subpoenas for documents and testimony just since April,” the lawmakers wrote. “Moreover, in a March 2, 2015, letter you wrote to Ranking Member Waters, you vigorously defended the usefulness and necessity of the subpoena power in conducting legitimate oversight in accordance with this Committee’s constitutional oversight functions. It is in furtherance of this Committee’s oversight responsibilities that we call on you to commence an investigation and to use your subpoena powers to obtain the documents that Deutsche Bank is currently withholding from the Committee.”

Last month, Waters and committee Democrats introduced a Resolution of Inquiry (ROI) directing the U.S. Secretary of Treasury Steven Mnuchin to provide Congress with documents from the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) regarding the financial and business dealings of President Trump, his family members and his associates.

House Financial Services Committee Democrats said they are committed to uncovering any evidence of financial dealings between President Trump, his associates, and Russia.
