During the 10-day sales tax holiday, which began on April 15 and concludes on April 24, 2022, the 6 percent sales tax is waived on medical cannabis products, excluding paraphernalia, purchased from all of DC’s seven licensed dispensaries.

Per the ABRA, a dispensary is a licensed establishment possessing and dispensing medical cannabis and paraphernalia to licensed patients and caregivers – noting the medical cannabis sold by a dispensary is provided to them by a DC-licensed and located medical cannabis cultivator.

DC residents seeking to take advantage of the sales tax holiday may enroll or renew their registrations at no cost through April 24, officials indicated, noting registrations are valid for two years from the date of issuance.

Walk-in registration is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Applicants submitting complete applications will receive their digital and physical registration during their visit.

The ARBA indicated applicants 65 years of age or older may also self-certify they will only use cannabis purchased from a DC dispensary for medical purposes instead of securing a recommendation from their healthcare provider.
