The City of Albany is seeking Local Cannabis Advisory Committee applicants, noting those selected would aid in developing municipal-level cannabis regulations.
Regulatory considerations, per authorities, would include time, place, and manner of adult-use retail dispensaries, in addition to on-site consumption licenses, social equity, and protection of community health and safety.
According to city officials, individuals and groups interested in applying to be considered for the Local Cannabis Advisory Committee should submit a statement not exceeding 500 words outlining interest in joining the panel and qualifications. Statements should be forwarded to the Office of Mayor Kathy Sheehan – Attn: Jasmine Higgins, Policy Analyst & Special Advisor – Room 102, City Hall, Albany, NY 12207. Email: localmarijuana@albanyny.gov
The City of Albany has requested applicants conduct a brief interview with Mayor Sheehan’s office before appointment to the advisory committee – adding advisory committee applications are due no later than 11:59 p.m. on June 15, 2022.
The Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA) was signed into law on March 31, 2021, authorizing the lawful use of adult-use recreational cannabis and the lawful use of medical cannabis.
The MRTA establishes the cannabis law, the New York State Cannabis Control Board, and the Office of Cannabis Management (NYS OCM) and their respective powers and duties, per authorities.
