Ally Bank app allows debit card holders to set card controls, preferences from phone

Ally Bank launched a new smartphone app that allows customers to set control preferences on their debit cards and change them instantly.

The Ally Card Controls app allows users to access a variety of features, including turning their debit cards on or off if it is stolen or misplaced It also enables users to set spending limits on the card.

It also has location awareness, which means the cardholder can keep the card active only when it is around their phone or within a specific region set by the user. Customers can deny purchases made outside of the specified region and are alerted when they are denied.

The user can also enable or disable purchases from specific categories of merchants. If the customer wants to avoid using the card for gas or groceries, that preference can be set. The customer can also disable online purchases to avoid unauthorized purchases.

At Ally, we continuously innovate and strive for exceptional convenience for our customers. Giving Ally bank customers the ability to proactively control, monitor, and manage card usage with the tap on the Ally Card Controls app provides cardholders peace of mind related to their debit card,” Diane Morais, Ally Bank president and CEO, said. “Consumers want to manage their financial matters anytime from anywhere, and the ability to customize card usage using the Ally Card Controls app is just another example of how we aim to ‘do it right’ for our customers.”
