Robert G. Jones has been appointed chairman of the American Bankers Association’s American Bankers Council for the 2018-2019 membership year.
“Midsize banks are critical economic drivers, and this council will benefit tremendously from Bob’s leadership in this space,” Rob Nichols, ABA president and CEO, said. “His depth of knowledge and experience will be a tremendous asset.”
ABA officials said Jones is currently chairman and CEO of Old National Bancorp in Evansville, Indiana, and is a member of its board of directors, adding before joining Old National, Jones served for 25 years at KeyCorp.
Under Jones’ leadership, the Old National has received national recognition. Since 2012, the institution has been recognized as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute, and the company received the Employee Volunteer Program of the Year award from VolunteerMatch from 2012 to 2015.
The American Bankers Council (ABC) is the ABA’s banker-driven peer group for midsize bank chief executives, officials said, providing feedback and direction to the ABA on key regulatory and legislative issues critical to midsize banks.
The Council participates in regular meetings with peers to exchange information and share best practices on issues affecting their banks.
ABA is the voice of the nation’s $17 trillion banking industry, comprised of small, regional and large banks employing more than two million people, safeguarding $13 trillion in deposits and extending nearly $10 trillion in loans.
