Thompson appointed as CFP Board vice president of public policy

The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. on Tuesday announced the appointment of Maureen Thompson as vice president of public policy.

Maureen Thompson

Thompson brings nearly three decades of experience to CFP Board, having founded the highly successful government relations and coalition building practice The Hastings Group, and led the Save Our Retirement coalition. She has served as an advocate for investor and consumer protection, and for groups such as working families and the elderly who often lack a voice in Washington, D.C.

“Maureen Thompson is known around Washington, D.C. and nationally as a champion for consumers and investors,” CFP Board’s Chief Executive Officer Kevin Keller said. “With more than 30 years of experience, Maureen is an accomplished government relations professional who knows how to build coalitions and passionately advocate for policies that are in the public interest. We look forward to having her on our team to advance CFP Board’s mission to benefit the public.”

Thompson will report to Keller, and will work to advocate the public policy positions of the CFP Board before state governmental offices.

“CFP Board has established itself as a credible, knowledgeable and influential organization in the world of public policy – in Washington, D.C. and across the country,” Thompson said. “I look forward to building upon the progress CFP Board has made in carrying out its mission and advocating on behalf of the American public.”
