The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) recently named former federal prosecutor David Miller as director of enforcement.

“I am delighted to welcome David to the CFTC,” Chairman Michael Selig said. “He brings to the Commission decades of experience as a federal prosecutor and white-collar defense attorney, with a proven track record of defending market participants against the novel legal theories of overzealous regulators and plaintiffs. He will play a critical role in ensuring the division is focused on its core purpose of policing fraud, abuse, and manipulation rather than setting policy.
Miller joins the agency from two global law firms, Greenberg Traurig and Morgan Lewis where he served as a litigation partner. His career has focused on white-collar defense, government and internal investigations, commodities and securities enforcement, complex civil litigation, digital asset enforcement and regulatory issues, and national security matters.
Miller has experience representing clients before the CFTC, the Securities Exchange Commission, the Department of Justice, state attorneys general offices and self-regulatory organizations.
He also spent nearly a decade in government service, most recently for five years as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York. Miller began his career in private practice in New York.
