The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently appointed David Woodcock as Division of Enforcement director, effective May 4.
Woodcock comes to the SEC from private practice. He is a securities and governance attorney who currently is a partner in the Dallas and Washington, D.C. offices of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. He focuses on regulatory enforcement, internal investigations and corporate governance and is Securities Enforcement Practice Group chairman.
From 2011 to 2015, Woodcock served as director of the SEC’s Fort Worth Regional Office. He oversaw investigations in nearly every major area of the SEC’s enforcement program; led Enforcement and Examinations Division lawyers, accountants, and examiner; was Enforcement Advisory Committee member; and created the SEC’s cross-office and cross-division Financial Reporting and Audit Task Force, serving as its chairman.
“I am incredibly pleased to have David rejoin the SEC at this critical time, as we continue to focus on the types of misconduct that inflict the greatest harm to investors,” SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said. “With experience as a senior officer at the SEC, global law firm partner, a certified public accountant, and senior in-house corporate attorney, David is a foremost expert in all relevant facets of securities law and has deep institutional knowledge.”
