The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), a nonprofit corporation established by Congress to oversee the audits of public companies, is seeking public comment on its draft 2026-2030 strategic plan.
The PCAOB’s strategic plan serves as a road map for the PCAOB’s activities and is used to develop the organization’s budget each year. It aligns the board’s programs, operations, and activities with its overall mission to protect investors and further the public interest in the preparation of informative, accurate, and independent audit reports.
“The PCAOB’s strategic priorities, goals, and objectives represent a unified approach to strengthening our investor-protection mission and guiding our work across the organization,” Chairman Demetrios Logothetis said. “Receiving stakeholder feedback at this stage will help ensure that our final 2026–2030 Strategic Plan is both ambitious and practical—one that advances audit quality, enhances transparency, and positions the PCAOB to meet the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly evolving environment not only over the next five years, but well into the future.”
The PCAOB identified three reinforcing priorities for its strategic plan: advance audit quality and investor protection; clarify expectations and our bases for decisions leading to understandable outcomes; and transform how oversight is delivered.
It is now seeking input on six draft strategic goals and related objectives for the organization’s 2026-2030 strategic plan. They are:
- Modernize standard setting and implementation.
- Modernize the inspections and registration programs.
- Sharpen enforcement focus on conduct harmful to investors.
- Deepen stakeholder engagement and communication.
- Modernize oversight through technology and data.
- Strengthen organizational effectiveness and stewardship.
Additional input from stakeholders will help PCAOB further refine the strategic goals and objectives before the final plan is adopted later this year. The deadline for comments on the draft goals and objectives is September 4.
