The U.S. Senate confirmed Crews as a NCUA Board of Directors member on Aug. 7, and President Donald Trump designated Crews as chairman following the confirmation.

Crews served as U.S. Department of Treasury deputy assistant secretary for financial institutions policy prior to joining the NCUA board. In this role, he focused on regulation, financial infrastructure, and safety and soundness matters.

He previously served as Senate Banking Committee policy director, policy adviser to House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and National Economic Council in the White House special assistant to the president for economic policy during the first Trump Administration.

“I appreciate the trust and support that the president has placed in me, and the U.S. Senate for confirming me,” Crews said. “I intend to capitalize on the agency’s progress on two of the administration’s most ambitious goals: enabling innovation and right sizing the regulatory framework that governs the financial services industry.”

Crews said his priorities are safeguarding the interests of credit union member-owners, supporting initiatives that promote access to affordable financial services, and maintaining a strong and healthy National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund.
