Kumar succeeds Helga Houston, who will assume a new role as Senior Executive Advisor. Houston will work closely with the bank’s executive leadership team on key strategic initiatives. Kumar will assume his new role on Feb. 16 and the two will transition completely to their new roles by March 1. Kumar will report to Huntington’s CEO Steve Steinour.

“I am thrilled to welcome Senthil to the executive team and into this critical role,” Steinour said. “His proven leadership and wealth of experience will further Huntington’s strong risk management culture as we enter the next phase of growth and innovation.”

Kumar comes to the bank with 25 years of experience in senior risk leadership which, bank officials said, would strengthen the company’s risk governance and compliance capabilities. Previously, he served as CRO at BNY overseeing the firm’s credit risk, operational risk, market risk and compliance functions. Prior to BNY, Kumar held multiple senior risk leadership roles at Citigroup, including CRO for the Institutional Clients Group and Head of Risk for Financial Institutions and the Public Sector at Citi.

Kumar has also held leadership roles at Samba Financial Group, serving first as Head of Market Risk Management and subsequently as Business Head of Alternative Investments. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, and has a bachelor’s degree in math from the University of Madras in India.
