CME Group cryptocurrency complex reaches record daily volume

CME Group, a leading global derivatives marketplace, announced its cryptocurrency futures and options suite saw an all-time record daily volume recently.

On Nov. 21, the cryptocurrency complex recorded 794,903 contracts, besting the previous record of 728,475 contracts set on Aug. 22, 2025.

“Amid ongoing market uncertainty, demand for deeply liquid, regulated crypto risk management tools is accelerating,” Giovanni Vicioso, head of cryptocurrency products at CME Group. “Clients across the globe continue to turn to our benchmark cryptocurrency futures and options to hedge their risk and pursue opportunities in this complex environment, with both large institutions and retail traders driving record activity across our product suite.”

The group said to date this year, its overall cryptocurrency average daily volume of 270,900 contracts is up 132 percent compared to 2024, with an average open interest of 299,700 contracts, up 82 percent over 2024. Micro-futures and options suite achieved a new daily volume of 676, 088 contracts, while Micro Bitcoin futures and options reached a record daily volume of 210, 347 contracts.

The company said its ADV for the fourth quarter of 403,200 contracts is up 106 percent of the fourth quarter contracts in 2024, while its average open interest in the fourth quarter is up to 493,700 contracts, up 117 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2024.
