“It is critical for medical cannabis advocates to vote in this year’s midterm elections to strengthen medical cannabis laws at both the state and national levels for the benefit of patients all across the United States and its territories,” ASA Director of Government Affairs Abbey Roudebush said.

The ASA maintains there has been an increase in legislators supporting medical cannabis policies, with medical proponents acknowledging being closer than ever to witnessing the passing of federal cannabis-specific legislation to protect patients.

“The upcoming 118th congress will have our best opportunity yet to enact federal medical cannabis laws,” the ASA notes in the 2022 Vote Medical Marijuana voter guide. “Your votes can help keep existing allies in office and bring new advocates in, but to pass those laws, we will not only need champions in the House and the Senate but also support in the White House.”

The ASA noted that it does not endorse any candidates. The guide provides comprehensive information on how candidates have supported, or opposed, policies of importance to medical cannabis patients and the cannabis marketplace.
