MetLife Investment Management names new head of Private Fixed Income

MetLife Investment Management (MIM), the institutional asset management business of MetLife, recently named Geert Henckens Private Fixed Income global head.

Geert Henckens

Henckens will lead teams that originate and manage a broad array of private asset investments that offer clients relative value, portfolio diversification and potential downside protection. He joined MIM’s EMEA Corporate Private Placement team in 2014, heading the group from 2020 to 2023, and became Investment Grade Private Credit global head in 2023. Before joining MIM, Henckens arranged and underwrote syndicated loans at KBC Bank in London.

“Our private fixed income platform is well positioned with deep capabilities in originating and managing private assets for our clients, from traditional high-grade private debt, including corporate and infrastructure debt, to private asset-based finance, residential credit and private equity and middle market direct lending,” Henckens said.

Henckens succeeds Brian Funk who was promoted to MIM president in June.

“As a premier originator of private assets, MIM’s private fixed income platform is a key differentiator in capturing current and emerging trends, such as the rise of non-bank lending,” Funk said. “Geert brings deep global financial markets experience and having a London-based leader of private fixed income and a strong leadership team positions us well to seize additional opportunities as demand grows across this market.”

MetLife Investment Management had $624.3 billion in total assets under management as of June 30.
